Affordable Connectivity Program

On January 11, 2024, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it expects the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) will run completely out of funding by the end of April 2024. This means unless Congress provides additional funding or other circumstances change, the ACP will be terminated, and April 2024 will be the final month of the $30 ACP benefit from Mediacom.

FAQs

1. What does ACP wind-down mean?

In preparing for the potential end of the ACP, the Wireline Competition Bureau (the “Bureau”) has directed participating providers to take certain steps to “wind-down” the ACP. These steps are to take place between January 2024 and April 2024 (the “wind-down period”) and include, among other things, providing at least three notices related to the end of the ACP to their ACP households.

ACP households should expect the first notice by January 25, 2024, the second notice in mid-March and the final notice in the last bill that the ACP benefit is applied.

2. When is the last day for ACP enrollments?

The last day participating providers may enroll eligible households in the ACP is February 7, 2024, by 11:59 PM ET. Households that are enrolled by this date and remain enrolled in the ACP will continue to receive their ACP benefit during the wind-down period but will no longer receive the ACP benefit in May 2024.

3. What happens if I have qualified for the ACP but have not yet enrolled?

If you qualified for the ACP, but you have not enrolled in the ACP with Mediacom or another participating provider by February 7, 2024, you will not be able to enroll in the ACP and will not receive the ACP benefit.

If you have an active qualified application for the ACP, but have not yet enrolled, contact Mediacom at 855-330-6918 to enroll.

4. What happens if Congress provides additional funding for the ACP?

If Congress decides to provide more funding for the ACP, the FCC will provide further guidance and instructions on how the ACP will proceed at that time.

5. If I have questions about the ACP wind-down process, who should I contact other than my internet company?

Consumers should contact USAC directly for questions about the ACP wind-down process. Consumers can call the ACP Support Center at 877-384-2575 or go to GetInternet.gov for information about the status of the program. Consumers can continue to file complaints through the FCC's Consumer Complaint Center at https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov about ACP billing and service issues.

6. What does the end of the ACP mean for ACP customers?

If the ACP is terminated, April 2024 will be the final month ACP customers will receive the $30 ACP benefit from Mediacom. Beginning in May 2024, billing statements will no longer include the ACP benefit and ACP customers will be responsible for the full amount in the bill.

ACP customers that either 1) previously consented to continue to receive internet service from Mediacom after the end of ACP; 2) paid for service from Mediacom before they started receiving the ACP benefit; or 3) currently contribute to the cost of their internet service after the ACP benefit is applied, will continue to receive their internet service from Mediacom after the end of the ACP without the $30 ACP discount.

ACP customers that 1) have not previously consented to continue to receive their internet service from Mediacom after the end of ACP or 2) receive fully-subsidized internet service will not continue to receive their internet service from Mediacom after the end of the ACP, unless households consent to keep the internet service.

Households that continue to receive internet service from Mediacom will be subject to Mediacom’s undiscounted rates and the general terms and conditions relevant to their service.

ACP customers who do not wish to continue to receive internet service after the end of ACP or wish to change service plans, should contact Mediacom customer service at 855-330-6918 to discuss options.

7. What consumer protections are available to ACP households during wind-down?

Existing ACP consumer protections remain in effect. More information can be found at the Affordable Connectivity benefits page.
