Mediacom extends fiber network to Franklin, Illinois
Gigabit services now available to 300+ Franklin homes & businesses
JACKSONVILLE, IL – November 22, 2021 – Mediacom Communications announced today that the company has completed the expansion of a state-of-the-art fiber network in the Village of Franklin in Morgan County. Franklin now joins the ranks of the more than 350 Gigabit communities Mediacom serves across Illinois.
The new fiber-optic network reaches just over 300 homes and businesses and provides consumers with substantially faster internet service options. Customers can select speeds as fast as the 1 Gigabit-per-second downloads included with Mediacom’s Xtream 1 Gig internet – a speed 20 to 40 times faster than the typical speeds previously available to Franklin residents.
To extend broadband service to unserved communities, Mediacom participated in the Connect Illinois grant program administered by the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity (IL DCEO). A Connect Illinois grant provided one-third of the funds needed to build the Franklin network, and Mediacom invested $419,000 toward the total project cost of $630,000.
“With this investment, we can offer Franklin residents the super-fast internet and cutting-edge services that Mediacom customers in Jacksonville, Chapin and other areas have enjoyed for many years,” said Mediacom’s Senior Operations Director Dan Stuhr. “Gig Internet will provide a large amount of bandwidth to a home network – allowing multiple users to surf, stream, download and game at the same time.”
“And of course, today’s consumers want to connect dozens of internet-dependent devices for everything from home security to smart-home appliances. Robust connectivity is the key ingredient to adapt to innovations that are changing how we work, learn, play and stay connected,” Stuhr added.
Mediacom was the first Internet Service Provider to launch Gigabit speed broadband across its entire national footprint. In Morgan County, services are available in Jacksonville, South Jacksonville, Chapin, and now Franklin.
