What to Watch: Holiday Edition 2022
December is here and what better way to celebrate the holiday season than to snuggle up on the couch and watch a Christmas movie or your favorite holiday episodes?
Whether it's a classic such as Home Alone on Freeform or the new Netflix movie Falling for Christmas, this month is filled with lots of content that will surely keep you entertained.
TV Picks:
On the broadcast and cable side of TV, ABC has some new holiday-themed episodes of The Conners and The Goldbergs airing on Wed, December 7th starting at 8/7c. On December 8th catch the broadcast premiere of Frozen II at 8/7c. If you’re in the mood for some boy-band nostalgia, look no further than A Very Backstreet Holiday airing Wed December 14th.
CBS is bringing holiday cheer in the form of a new original movie called Fit for Christmas airing December 4th at 8/7c about a Christmas-obsessed fitness instructor who begins a romance with a mysterious businessman (Peter Greene) at a community center. As their romance blossoms, his plans to turn the property into a profitable business becomes complicated.
Every year, Freeform delights with its 25 Days of Christmas programming block; this year is no different as all your favorite movies are played throughout the month. From Jingle All the Way to The Santa Clause franchises, there's no shortage of holiday fun. Other highlights include Last Christmas on December 12th and Miracle on 34th Street on December 23rd.
Romance is in the wintery air as Hallmark brings you their Movies & Mysteries lineup. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday there’s a new holiday movie for you to enjoy at 8/7c. Some highlights this season include A Tale of Two Christmases, A Big Fat Family Christmas, and Holiday Heritage. The latter tells the story of Ella who encourages her family to celebrate Christmas and Kwanza to heal their past wounds before it is too late. This film stars Lyndie Greenwood and Holly Robinson Peete. The film premieres December 16th at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel.
TBS is bringing you the usual 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. Re-watch all your favorite moments from the Christmas classic until you have yourself asking for a leg lamp for Christmas.
Lifetime has all the goods on their (It's a Wonderful Lifetime) schedule. On December 15th, watch Record Breaking Christmas about an adjudicator for The World Record Bureau who is forced to travel to a small town before Christmas to investigate plans to break multiple holiday world records. Another movie arriving December 16th is A Christmas to Treasure which tells the story of the reunion of six friends who come home for a holiday treasure hunt and sparks fly between brand strategist Austin and his former best friend Everett.
And for those of you just looking for some happy background music, Mediacom has a variety of holiday Yule logs to turn your living spaces into crackling fireplaces, from those featuring the adorable playing of puppies to the traditional log. What's on Streaming?
This month brings you lots of great holiday content on all your favorite streaming services. First up is The Santa Clauses on Disney+ which has Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell and Eric Lloyd reprising their roles from The Santa Clause films. This time, Scott Calvin is deciding to step down as Santa and goes on the search for his replacement. This series is currently streaming.
Other highlights on the platform include Mickey Saves Christmas, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Noelle. A new special featuring the cast of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is featured this holiday season. Join the gang as they celebrate Christmas and set out to Earth to find Peter Quill the ultimate Christmas present – in the form of Kevin Bacon himself! HBO Max is giving you an early Christmas gift in the form of A Christmas Story Christmas. The film has Peter Billingsley reprise his role from the beloved 1983 original film. Ralphie returns to his old house with his wife and children as he tries to recreate the magical Christmas he had in his childhood. The service also includes classics such as How the Grinch Stole Christmas and The Polar Express.
The service also has some of your favorite Christmas episodes of classic TV Shows such as the Friends classic "The One with The Holiday Armadillo" on HBO Max and Parks and Recreation's "Citizen Knope" on Peacock.
Hulu has its own offerings this season with their vast library that will bring out the holiday spirit in you. Christmas on Repeat is a holiday film starring Matthew Lawrence about a workaholic who gets stuck in a time loop during the holiday season. There’s also the classic A Christmas Carol and the Hulu Original Happiest Season.
Peacock is currently hosting the Hallmark Movie & TV collection on their service along with other holiday favorites including The Family Man and Love, Actually.
Finally, Netflix has you covered with a lot of new holiday content to keep the holiday feels coming. Falling for Christmas marks the return of Lindsay Lohan where she plays a rich heiress who gets amnesia after a skiing accident. She then falls in love with a lodge owner while trying to find out who she is. Freddy Prinze Jr. stars in Christmas with You, as he plays a pop star who faces burnout as he travels to a small town looking for love during the holiday season. Other highlights include The Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2 and Christmas with a Prince.
