What to Watch: Christmas Edition

December is here and what better way to celebrate the holiday season than to snuggle up on the couch and watch a Christmas movie or your favorite holiday episodes.

Whether it's a classic such as A Christmas Story on TBS or the new Netflix movie A Castle for Christmas, this month is filled with lots of content that will surely keep you entertained.

Here’s the highlights:

TV Picks:

ABC has some new holiday-themed episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Station 19, plus an airing of the immensely popular classic film The Sound of Music on Sunday, December 19, part of The Wonderful World of Disney programming block.

CBS is bringing holiday cheer in the form of a new original movie called A Christmas Proposal  starring Adam Rodriquez about a chef who agrees to pose as the girlfriend of a lawyer and as sparks begin to fly, they try to prove he's the one to take over the family firm.

There's no easier way to get into the holiday spirit like Peanuts so don't forget to catch A Charlie Brown Christmas Christmas Eve on CBS at 7:30/6:30c.

Every year, Freeform delights with its 25 Days of Christmas programming block; This year is no different as all your favorite movies are played throughout the month. From the Home Alone to The Santa Clause franchises, there's no shortage of holiday cheer. Some highlights include Love Actually on Dec. 14 and Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas on Dec. 15. Romance is in the wintery air as Hallmark brings you their Movies & Mysteries lineup. Every Friday, Saturday & Sunday there is a new holiday movie for you to enjoy at 8/7c. Some highlights this season include One December Night, Our Christmas Journey, & Christmas for Keeps. The latter tells the story of a group of friends who travel home and reunite after 10 years to celebrate the life of their teacher.

TBS is bringing you the usual 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. Re-watch all your favorite moments from the Christmas classic until you have yourself asking for a leg lamp for Christmas. On New Year's Eve, watch a whole day of comedy classics such as Bridesmaids, 50 First Dates, and Superbad starting at 11/10c on TBS.

 

Lifetime has all the goods on their It's a Wonderful Lifetime schedule. On Dec. 14, jump into Ghosts of Christmas Past about a serial ghoster who is told by a fortune teller that she must make amends with all of those she ghosted before Christmas or she will never find true love. Other highlights include Slaybells on LMN and It Takes a Christmas Village.

And for those of you just looking for some happy background music, we have a variety of holiday Yule logs to turn your living spaces into crackling fireplaces, from those featuring the adorable playing of puppies to the traditional log. What's on Streaming?

This month brings you more content than ever on all your favorite streaming services. First up is Hawkeye on Disney+ which has Jeremy Renner reprise his role as the title character. It centers on Clint Barton and Kate Bishop as they fight enemies from their past during the holiday season. Other highlights on the platform include Jingle All the Way, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and Home Alone. A sequel to the 1990 hit also premiered this season called Home Sweet Home Alone, about a married couple who tries to steal back a valuable heirloom from a troublesome kid. Devin Ratray, who portrayed Buzz McCallister in the original two films, reprises his role.

HBO Max is giving you an early Christmas gift in the form of 8-Bit Christmas. The film stars Neil Patrick Harris and is a MAX Original Movie set in the '80s about a kid's journey to obtain the latest and greatest video game system. The service also includes classics such as Elf and The Polar Express.

On the TV side you can always watch the Christmas episodes of your favorite shows such as the Friends classic "The One with The Holiday Armadillo" on HBO Max and Parks and Recreation's "Citizen Knope" on Peacock.

Hulu has its own offerings this season as its vast library can bring out the holiday spirit in you. Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz star in the critically acclaimed The Holiday about two women with guy problems who swap homes in each other's countries and meet their soulmates. There’s also the classic A Christmas Carol and the Hulu Original Happiest Season.

Finally, we have the juggernaut that is Netflix. The streaming giant has plenty of new holiday films to choose from this season. A Boy Called Christmas tells the story of a young Nikolas as he sets out on a wild adventure in the north in search of his father who is on a journey to discover a habitat of elves. Other highlights include The Princess Switch 3: Romancing the Star and A Castle for Christmas.
