What to Watch: Christmas Edition 2023

'Tis the season, and what better way to embrace the festive spirit than by cozying up on the couch to indulge in the magic of a Christmas movie or relish your cherished holiday episodes?

Whether you opt for the timeless charm of Home Alone on Freeform or dive into the latest Netflix release, Best Christmas Ever!, this December promises an abundance of captivating content to ensure a season filled with joy and entertainment.

TV Picks:

On the broadcast and cable side of TV, ABC has a new season of The Great Christmas Light Fight  premiering on Sunday, December 10th starting at 10/9c. On December 14th catch A CMA Country Christmas at 8/7c. This special will feature one-of-a-kind musical performances of festive classics from country music’s biggest stars. On Christmas Day, get in the holiday spirit with Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade from 10/9c-12/11c.

NBC is bringing holiday cheer in the form Barry Manilow’s A Very Barry Christmas airing December 11th at 10/9c. The special will feature the best of Manilow’s greatest hits including “Mandy,” “I Write the Songs,” and “Looks Like We Made It.” On Christmas Eve, relive all the magic during an airing of It’s a Wonderful Life at 8/7c. This holiday classic stars Jimmy Stewart as an angel that is sent from heaven to help a desperate businessman by showing him what life would have been like if he never existed.

 Every year, Freeform delights with its 25 Days of Christmas programming block; All your favorite movies are played throughout the month. From Jingle All the Way to The Santa Clause franchises, there is no shortage of holiday fun. Other highlights include Noelle on December 14th and Frozen I & II on December 18th starting at 6/20c.

Romance is in the wintery air as Hallmark brings you their crop of Holiday movies. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday there’s a new holiday movie for you to enjoy at 8/7c. Some highlights this season include Christmas on Cherry LaneA Not So Royal Christmas, and Friends and Family Christmas. The latter is about two women who agree to pretend that they’re dating to anger their parents. Over time, the two develop real feelings during the holiday season. The film premieres Dec. 17 at 8/7c on Hallmark Channel.

TBS is bringing you the usual 24-hour marathon of A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve. Re-watch all your favorite moments from the Christmas classic until you have yourself asking for a leg lamp for Christmas.

Lifetime has all the goods on their (It's a Wonderful Lifetime) schedule. On December 9th, watch A Cowboy Christmas Romance about a pro real estate closer who is sent to her hometown in Arizona to close on a big ranch before Christmas. She soon meets an attractive ranch owner who refuses to sell his home. Another movie arriving December 17th is Merry Magic Christmas which tells the story of a financial advisor who starts seeing a recurring number: 624. She is told the number is from a Christmas angel to help make her heart’s secret wish come true.

And for those of you just looking for some holiday background music, Mediacom has a variety of holiday Yule logs to turn your living spaces into crackling fireplaces, from those featuring the adorable playing of puppies to the traditional log. What's on Streaming?

This month brings you lots of great holiday content on all your favorite streaming services. First up is season two of The Santa Clauses on Disney+ which has Tim Allen, Elizabeth Mitchell and Eric Lloyd reprising their roles from The Santa Clause films. Scott Calvin and his family return to the North Pole for more adventures. This series is currently streaming.

Other highlights on the platform include A Very Boy Band Christmas, Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, and The Ultimate Christmas Present. A new series titled Diary of a Wimpy Kid Christmas: Cabin Fever arrives this season. After accidentally damaging someone else’s property with his best friend, Greg worries he might not get the presents he wants. A snowstorm hits his town at the same time, and he is trapped indoors with his family. Will he be able to redeem himself?

Max is celebrating the 20th anniversary of Elf this holiday season. Other holiday classics are on the platform such as A Christmas Story, The Polar Express, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Max will also have four holiday episodes of Selena and Chef: Home for the Holidays  where Selena Gomez will invite celebrity chefs into her home to show off their favorite holiday dishes. The series is now streaming.

The service also has some of your favorite Christmas episodes of classic TV Shows such as the Friends classic "The One with The Holiday Armadillo" on Max and Parks and Recreation's "Citizen Knope" on Peacock.

Hulu has its own offerings this season with their vast library that will bring out the holiday spirit in you. Some of the holiday classics include Jack Frost and Four Christmases. Hulu also has All I Want for Christmas about a young girl who wants her divorced parents to get back together for Christmas. With a little holiday magic, her wish may come true.

Peacock is currently hosting the Hallmark Movie & TV collection on their service along with other holiday favorites including Four Christmases and Happiest Season.

Finally, Netflix has you covered with plenty of new holiday content to keep the holiday feels coming. Best. Christmas. Ever! stars Heather Graham and Brandy. When a series of events lands Charlotte and her family on her friend Jackie’s doorsteps days before Christmas, she seizes the opportunity to prove her old friend’s life cannot be perfect. Other highlights include The Christmas Chronicles 1 & 2, Christmas with a Prince and Single All the Way.
