Ahsoka 101
Jun 28, 2023
This is not a spoiler-free blog. There will be spoilers for Star Wars episodes 1-6 and The Clone Wars. It's the bare minimum amount, but you've been warned.
Ahsoka's coming to Disney+ August 2023. There's probably some things you'll need to watch to catch up. It's only 11 movies and 22 seasons from 9 different tv shows. Not a small ask to get ready. The good news is that... you don't have to watch all of it. To get the bare minimum of what you need, you can check out the curated collections of Essential Ahsoka episodes on Disney+. It'll give you probably enough to not be completely confused.
But instead, allow us to give you an alternative catch up path.
If you haven't seen at LEAST episodes 1 - 6, I'm sorry that's a must, get to watching. But if you've already caught those here's what you need to know from Clone Wars:
-
Ahsoka Tano was the padawan learner to Anakin Skywalker throughout the Clone Wars. She fought alongside many clones, Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
-
She had a difference of opinion with the Jedi and walked away.
-
Ahsoka survived Order 66, because she spent her formative years training with and fighting with Clones.
Welcome to what you should watch though:
Star Wars: Rebels is a four season animated show about a small rebel cell operating to liberate the planet of Lothal in the run up to the formation of the Rebel Alliance, and ends days before the events of Episode four. The cell is the very definition of found family - complete with a set of parents (functionally, not literally), and an older brother, cool middle sister and the bratty younger brother.
We won't give you all the details but here's the outside cover on the blind date with Star Wars: Rebels
-
2 cups of Found Family Vibes
-
2 Tbsp Jedi mysticism & lore
-
1/4 cup Mandalorian shenanigans
-
1 answer to Hey, what ever happened to Darth Maul?
-
1 unhinged droid that could reasonably be classified a war criminal
-
2 Imperials that you'll hate, but also kinda like by the end
Cameos List (because what would Star Wars be without them?)
-
Princess Leia
-
Tarkin
-
Yoda
-
Obi-Wan Kenobi
-
Saw Guererra
-
Jabba the Hutt
-
Lando Calrissian
-
Wedge Antilles
and more!
Genuinely, it looks kiddish because its animated, but its a beautifully nuanced story about fighting on in the face of loss, the power of hope and family, and redemption.
Plus, you may have been watching The Mandalorian and asking yourself what's all the hype over this Thrawn guy? The answer to that is here.
