Updating firmware on Motorola SB6120 modem
« on: September 28, 2011, 08:17:19 PM »
Just changed to a SB6120 modem last night.
Tonight, I looked at the modem status pages at 192.168.100.1 and checked the firmware info:

FW is SB6120-1.0.1.8-SCM02-NOSH
Boot version is PSPU-Boot 1.0.0.4ml
Hardware version is 3.0
FW Build time: Apr 22 2009  12:15:22

I assume it would be to my advantage to have the firmware updated. Will it do it automatically eventually? Do I have to manually do it?

Thanks

The latest firmware I show is SB6120-1.0.3.3-SCM00-NOSH. I can send a ticket up to our networking guys to push the latest firmware. Can you PM me your MAC address to make sure I have the correct one on file here?

Just PM'ed the MAC address on my new SB6120 modem.
When will this update occur?  I assume I will see a modem reset?

Thanks

Got it, thanks.

It can take up to 48 hours, but it's generally handled the next business day. When this does happen, you will see the modem reset 2 or 3 times.

NyQ,

Both attempts to upgrade the firmware to your modem failed. Did someone at your home possibly reset the modem in the last few minutes?

Got it pushed through to the latest approved firmware, 1.0.2.4.

1.0.3.3 is no longer available to push, I'm not sure why.

Just got home at 6:30 pm CDT.
Modem link light is now constantly flashing. Used to only flash when I was doing something.
All computers are turned off.
Turned on my computer and checked if modem firmware was updated.

New FW is SB612X-1.0.5.2-SCM01-NOSH
FW Build time:  Jan 26 2011  13:53:12

A quick search on the web show lots of reports of the link light flashing on the SB6120.

That's going to be a little outside of our control. We don't have a SB6120 in our office right now to test.

It's interesting that the displayed firmware is newer than what you said was going to be pushed. The modem appears to run fine with

SB612X-1.0.5.2-SCM01-NOSH

which is apparently what was pushed to me.
The cure for the constantly flashing link light apparently is to just cover it up!!
I can live with that.

Thanks for your help.

I've given this to our Tier 2 department to push.  The representative is working on another project at this point, but  will have a newer FW pushed out ASAP.  The update itself can take several minutes, and the modem will reset.  Once it comes back up, the new version will be running.

Thank you very much... When I called Tier 2 in my area they said they only push out firmware for wireless modems. That is why I came to this forum for support.

No problem!  It's strange that they would say that... we definitely had an update for you.

I think so, yes.  There is one representative over there right now, and he's tracing a possible network compatibility issue with McAffee antivirus.  We'll actually have more hands on deck here in the next half hour or so, so I'll send them along a reminder in a bit as well.

Yes, we would need the MAC on top of you account number or phone number,  To PM one of us, click on the speech bubble below our names to the right of our posts.  Once we can pull things up, we can check the firmware and push things if there is a newer version available.
