New LED TV, Cable Set-up?
« on: May 20, 2011, 05:24:21 PM »
Hello,

We recently purchased a new Samsung HDTV LED.  We have it connected to the cable box and then of course the cable box is connected to the actual cable.  The instructions for our TV told us to set up the cable by going into the TVs options and doing it automatically by searching for the channels.  The options for the search were STD, HRC, and IRC.  We ran it through STD and picked up 2 channels, 3 and 60.  We put it on channel 3 and the channel shows up but there are issues.  Only a select few channels are showing up on this new tv, the basic cable ones, and we are paying for almost all the channels.  Also, the channels that are showing up are INCREDIBLY blurry, you can not make out anything that is going on in the picture.  The other channels like starz just say not yet available or something along those lines.

Are there any troubleshooting tips I could go through?

If it helps, the TV is actually a 2010 Samsung Model, UN55C7000.

Thanks,
Matthew

Hrm, just to verify all was working on the previous TV correct? Also, what method are you hooking up to from the box to the TV?

Yes, all was working on the previous TV, which was an SDTV.  The box is hooked to the TV from the cable out, into an antenna adapter which is plugged into the TV.

Do you think you can PM me your account number so I can double check everything on the box from here?

To PM or Personal Message please click the talk bubble below my name on the left. It should be to the right of the email icon

Got it, just sent some signals to both boxes and one is not responding to anything. Is this TV hooked up to the DVR box?

Ah, it's actually the HD box that isn't responding to me here. Can you double check both the coax connection going from the wall to the box and also the one from the box to the TV, make sure they're good and snug.

When the cable box is powered on, your new TV should be on channel 3 to get the signal from the box.

The coax connection from the wall to the box is snug.  The coax going out from the box is snug and I was able to push the antenna adapter about a centimeter into the TV further, but picture quality has remained the same.

Hmm, would it be possible to bypass the cable box and rescan the channels using STD? I would like to see what the picture looks like without the box.

So you want me to plug the cable from the wall directly into the TV through the antenna adapter?

It's in the processing of scanning for channels.  Initially though, the channel that showed up on channel 3, although it was just the one, looked as clear as an SD channel could on an HDTV.  Although it hasn't finished scanning all the channels, it appears to be picking them all up.

Thank you. Can you unplug the digital box from power for a full minute and hook it back up. I want to see if it will receive signal now.

Scanning has finished, the channels that showed up afterward looked fun.  I have unplugged the cable box for a minute and plugged it back up.  Does it matter though that their is no actual coax cable going into it since it is currently going into the back of the TV?

There has to be a coax cable running from the wall to the box, then a cable hook up (HDMI, Coax, Component, etc.) running from the box to the TV.

Alright, I replugged the coax from the wall into the cable box, and then the coax coming from the cable box into the antenna adapter on the TV.

Try rescanning now for those channels.
