If you can try the other modem that would be suggested for now. Your area is still declared an outage and this may be the cause of the problem you are seeing.

As I was reactivating the RCA modem, the phone support person informed me that the outage in my area was video related and should not have affected the activation of the Motorola SB6120. She then went on to tell me that this Motorola will not work with my service since my service is DOCSIS 2.0 and the SB6120 is DOCSIS 3.0.

Can someone help here. The reason I started this thread was because I had the EXACT SAME PROBLEM with the Motorola SBG6580, and I wanted to get my own modem that would work out of the box. The SB6120 was recommended to me in this thread, and now I'm being told it won't work because of the service in my area????

DOCSIS 3.0 is backwards compatible with 2.0, so that is incorrect in regards to what the rep said. We have heard multiple issues with the 6580 and I have seen numerous users successfully use the 6120 on both higher and lower levels of internet service.

I apologize for the confusion there. I am unsure what the rep was looking at in regards to the outage, but the one declared on 2/13/2012 2:55:00 PM is for internet. There was an issue earlier today at 12:15:00 PM for channel 12 on cable, but as they stated that is in fact unrelated.

If there is an internet outage, why will the RCA work but not the 6120?  I did not have success over the phone with getting the RCA to work, but I was able to register the modem via the Mediacom activation website.

And will someone notify me as to when the internet outage is cleared up so I can attempt to install the SB6120 again.

Hard to say why one will work and the other will not with the outage still in effect, but if the RCA works I would leave it as is until the outage is cleared and we can try the other modem again. I will check back from time to time to see if the outage is still open.

The internet outage has been cleared up. Let us know when you have a moment and we will work with the SB6120
