Internet Support / CEDAR RAPIDS DOCSIS 1.0 MODEM SWAP
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:39:13 PM »
As of April 15, 2014 Mediacom will no longer be able to support DOCSIS 1.0 modems on our network. This will only affect a small number of our customers (about 500 total). We currently have a plan for customers that own their own DOCSIS 1.0 modem, as well as one for customers that are leasing one. For any customers that are currently leasing one of our DOCSIS 1.0 modems, you will be required to have a modem shipped to you to ensure that you get a new one. You will see messages in your browser alerting you weekly until you swap your modem.

Anyone that has not swapped their modem as of 4/7 will have one automatically shipped to the service address. Telemarketing Representatives will be reaching out to these customers and informing them that we have shipped them a DOCSIS 3.0 modem and that they must swap it or the service will be interrupted. Once the modem has been replaced, you do not need to return the modem. All that we ask is that you discard of it in an environmentally friendly way.

As for our customers that currently own their DOCSIS 1.0 modem, we will upgrade you to a DOCSIS 2.0 modem FREE OF CHARGE.

What you will have to do is go into our office in Cedar Rapids – 6300 Council Street NE, Cedar Rapid, IA 52402 Hours: Monday-Friday: 8am-6pm CT & Saturday: 9am-12pm CT (CLOSED EVERY Wednesday: 8am-9am CT)- We have reached out to these customers over the phone at the contact number we have on file leaving an automated message to do this. You will see weekly browser messages notifying you of this until you swap the modem, and anyone that does not replace the modem by April 7, 2014 will have a DOCSIS 2.0 modem shipped to you automatically.

Just as with the rental modems, Telemarketing Representatives will be reaching out to our customers letting them know we’ve shipped them a modem and they must swap it or they will experience an interruption in service when we discontinue use of D1 modem on the network. Once the modem has been replaced, you do not need to return the modem. All that we ask is that you discard of it in an environmentally friendly way.
